REAL BIJOU BRIDE – F+J’S MULTICULTURAL DESTINATION LONDON WEDDING

This time last year, I had the pleasure of working with Farid and Joy on a celebration that was so international but yet very London. A true multicultural destination London wedding with beautiful traditions and amazing dancing (plus an incredible turn on the mic by the bride herself!). These two were just the sweetest.

With friends and family travelling from across the Globe, there was always going be a global flavour to the big day. Woven into the festivities were elements of Chinese, Indian, Australian and English wedding traditions. And when I said these guys were sweet, the bride recorded the procession song as a surprise for the Groom. No one realised it wasn’t a professional singer (except the Groom) until the registrar announced it.

Farid and Joy came to me after realising that planning their London wedding from Hong Kong, whilst starting new jobs, studying for exams and moving house was just too much on their own. Joy’s cousin Emily (you will have seen her stylish wedding on the homepage) kindly pointed them in my direction. Now there are so many means of communication (a new favourite is group chat on Whatsapp), you rarely notice the miles or time difference between you. Plus the fun stuff such as cake tastings, engagement sessions, menu decisions, hair and make up trials are condensed into one or two trips – the wedding planning subsequently has fun date day vibes.

This is what I love about a London wedding, turn a corner and the backdrop suddenly changes. You can be walking meadowy fields one minute and then picture-perfect, mews lined streets the next. Photographer Debs Ivelja did a stellar job at finding such a variety of backgrounds that so succinctly captured the heart of the wedding.

Joy loved deep red shades right from the outset but was worried about how, as a Winter feeling shade, it would work in the height of Summer. I always think you’ve got to go with what you love, because that’s what makes you you. Teamed with crisp whites and seasonal blooms put together by the wonderful Liz at Blue Sky Flowers, it just worked.
