A MIDSUMMER PARTY
I cannot believe it’s taken me a year to share these images with you *slaps wrist*. You may remember around this time last year Mr Bijou and myself were celebrating our anniversary with a Midsummer party and I was telling you all about plans… canal boat trip followed by dancing the night away in London. Well it did happen and here are some shots of how it all turned out.
THE GIRL
I was extremely lucky to have Charlotte of Wilden Bride London create this custom party dress for me.
The amazing dress was loaded with phenomenal fashion details including exaggerated shoulder pads, feathers, scattered crystals and a rose pattern made by burning the fabric – for real.
The dress was pretty out there so I didn’t invest in too many accessories, just a cute vintage pearl tiara I found on eBay and white court shoes from ASOS.
I remember these ‘I Do’ shoe stickers had just come out when I got married so had to add them to my anniversary footwear. I love little hidden details.
THE BOY
Not wanting to be suited and booted he wore a patterned blue shirt with cream bow tie and trousers. The shirt, another great ASOS find, was patterned with tiny anchors which we thought was a cute detail given the celebrations were starting on a boat.
Not forgetting the all important shoes, vintage grey brogues with fresh pale blue laces.
THE DETAILS
You will have read about these DIY details last year but given the Shakespearean Midsummer party vibe there were lots of wild flowers in gold and silver glassware dotted about the place. Luggage tags stamped with a vintage Victorian letter M (that we bought when we first started dating and Mr Bijou subsequently got as a tattoo) acted as a guest book.
In keeping with the Midsummer Night’s Dream all the signage contained extracts from the play and we gave out seeds as favours.
As a nod to our wedding we hung photos from the day around the edges of the boat which was a great talking point as everyone tired to find themselves.
And of course we finished the night with a lot of dancing.
