REAL BIJOU BRIDE – LUCINDA’S HANDMADE WEDDING
Today’s delightful couple were lucky enough to find the perfect wedding setting at the bride’s parents home. Lucky girl. Set amongst the picturesque Shropshire Hills without restrictions they had the freedom to create everything from scratch for a truly handmade wedding. “We weren’t set on a particular style, it kind of evolved from the setting and an approach to make as much as we could and to involve friends and family where we could.”
“I guess a handmade, country/rustic feel probably describes it best – the main thing we wanted was to make it as relaxed as possible.”
DIY, DIY, DIY
Together with their friends and family this craft loving bride and groom set out early with their DIY. They came up with inventive ideas such as using glass cloths to make their napkins, signage out of junk yard wood and place names from luggage labels. Emphasising that you need time on your side bride Lucinda explains “We spent days making up paper pom poms to hang in the marquee.”
“One of the things that made it really special was having our families and friends contribute in various ways. My Mum grew, cut and arranged all the flowers for the church and the reception, James’ Mum made a whole table of amazing cakes including the wedding cake, the pork we ate came from one of the pigs my parents had reared on their smallholding, we bought the wine from a family vineyard of a friend of ours, the elderflower cordial was made from elderflowers picked from the surrounding fields, another friend designed the invites, order of services and a wedding newspaper we put together (he also recommended our brilliant photographer, Jane!) and my cousin’s company made James’ wedding suit.”
To fit with the Dutch barn setting for the evening’s dancing, Lucinda incorporated some farm yard elements with straw bales and upturned fruit crates to add seating and tables. Fashioning a dance floor by hanging super long theatre drapes and festoon lighting.
WORDS OF WISDOM
“My piece of advice for brides-to-be is to surround yourself with people you like – we were so lucky that all of our suppliers were wonderful and it made such a difference in the lead up and on the actual day as they felt like an extension of our family and friends.” You can see from these gorgeous images that they were really comfortable with their photographer and beam through every shot. Congratulations Lucinda and James.
