1. GET INSPIRED!
Where to start with the search for The Dress of Dreams? Well firstly you need to start looking around to see what you like. Pinterest, wedding blogs and bridal magazines are packed full of beautiful real-life weddings and inspiration, and are a great way for you to start collating images and dress styles that you like the look of. Do you think you want relaxed and informal, or do you want to go all-out princess? You may change your mind further down the line, but everyone needs to start somewhere.
2. DO YOUR RESEARCH
Ok, so you have an idea of the kind of thing you’re after, however vague. You’d like full-length rather than tea-length, you’re drawn to lace over taffeta, you’d like some kind of sleeve or strap perhaps. Next thing to do is find out who stocks these types of dresses and make appointments to visit two or three of them. There may be a bridal boutique close to your Mum’s house that she’d like to take you to, but do have a good look through their website first to make sure they stock the kind of look you’re after. There’s nothing worse than arriving at a bridal shop and not seeing anything you like.
3. HAVE A BUDGET- AND STICK TO IT
We don’t really like talking about money here in the UK, but dress prices vary hugely. From a couple of hundred to tens of thousands of pounds, everyone has their limit and it’s really important that you try and establish what you’re seriously prepared to spend up to, and stick to it. Whilst it may be tempting to try on the most expensive dress in the shop ‘just because’, what if nothing else compares?
4. KEEP GUESTS TO A MINIMUM
We think that it’s really important to start the dress hunt either on your own, or with a trusted friend/family member. It’s important that you work out exactly what you like first, before inviting other opinions. This is your dress after all, and it can be really disheartening for you to love something in the fitting room, only to be greeted with a ‘NO’ when you step out. Invite other guests when you’re down to the last 2 or 3 dresses and it’s decision time.

5. TRUST YOUR GUT
The Dress Hunt can often be surprising. You may think you want one look before falling in love with something entirely different, but this is ok! Ultimately you’re not dressing for anyone else but yourself, and you’re looking for the dress that makes you feel happy, secure and super special. And when you’re down to the last two dresses and can’t decide between the two- go with your heart over your head. The former is always more exciting!
