BIJOU BRIDE – POLLY’S BLACK & WHITE STYLE

A charming real wedding on the blog today courtesy of fine art photographer Ed Osborn. The Christmas marriage of Polly and Tom was inspired by a passion for art deco style. In Bride Polly’s own words “I’ve always loved all things art deco; F. Scott Fitzgerald, the Miami architectural district and the Chrysler Building, but I was keen that it shouldn’t look overly themed or fancy dress.” Cue simple black, white and red colourways with vintage accents such as a fur stole and glamourous curls.

THE DRESS

Bride Polly wanted a standout dress for her day and after searching far and wide stumbled upon Annette Carey Couture. Designer Annette worked directly with Polly to create a bespoke wedding gown – asymmetric bodice, fishtail shape with a beautiful black and white bow. “The bow was the basis for quite a lot of the design features of the day. I sourced some extra reams of the same material and we made bows for the flower girls and decorated the church.”

PHOTOGRAPHY

Polly and Tom, like so many other couples I work with, were not camera confident which is why I advise you Bijou brides to start your search for a photographer early. It is important that you find someone you are comfortable with and if you have an idea of the type of images you would like take a selection along to your first meeting. Polly and Tom were keen not to have too many formal photographs “We preferred to have photos that truly reflected the personality and atmosphere of the wedding. Ed was unobtrusive and really captured the spirit and style of the day.” Ed clearly put the couple at ease and captured these beautifully natural shots that really show their wedding day joy.

Over to Polly with her advice for Bijou readers…

“We had difficulty getting fresh flowers on the day because it was a bank holiday and so I decided to attempt a jewellery bouquet. I spent a few days hunting out brooches, rings and earrings and my talented friend Lynsey set to work. What you might at first think is a stressful and expensive problem can turn out to be one of the most fun parts of your day. Be creative, open-minded and don’t worry too much about what you’re ‘supposed’ to have.”
